Leadership Team

Here are our leaders who serve as deacons and trustees of Godalming Baptist Church CIO

Jack Curtis

Pastor

Jack joined the church in March 2025 having been Associate Pastor at Dorchester Community Church and originally from Worthing Baptist Church. He has worked in missions and as a support worker. He is primarily responsible for the preaching ministry on Sunday and helping the church look outward and engage with the community. He is creative, is a gifted artist and in 2017 was ‘artist in residence’ at Spring Harvest Christian Conference. He lists his interests as reading, walking, snooker and badminton.

Sally Pollard

Pastoral Assistant

Sally trained as a teacher and in the past has worked with under 5’s nursery and reception. As the title suggests she is involved in and coordinates all the pastoral care in the church and is in many ways a lynch pin in the church. She has initiated and organises many of our activities that seek to reach out into the community and bring people together. She lists her interests [when she has time] as reading, walking, gardening and dancing.

Pete Barringer

Deacon

Pete has a passion for worship, leading worship and the band. He has been a professional song writer for many years which has enabled him to travel the world. Family is important to Pete and he enjoys having large groups of friends in his life. He enjoys cycling and a ’good joke’ so we are careful not to take him too seriously.

Tony Benewith

Deacon

Tony has his own accountancy practice in Guildford specialising in Charities. He often helps clients in meeting the costs for the work he does for them. He is a long-standing member of the church and was in earlier days involved in young people’s work. He is an active participant in the Wintershall – ‘Life of Christ productions. He is interested in theatre and his company sponsor a number of local theatre and music companies..

Maureen Jones

Maureen retired from teaching chemistry in 1996 and although still busy her life is much more varied. She leads the stewarding team and Connect group which organises activities for women. She is a volunteer guide at RHS Wisley and enjoys looking after her own ‘wildlife garden. She enjoys walking, photography, travel, music and theatre.

Peter Jackson

Pastor

Peter retired from ministry in 2013 but was re-tyred to become Pastor of the church in October 2022 having been our Moderator for 18 months. He was a primary school teacher for 14 years before entering Baptist ministry and has lots of experience working with children in formal and informal settings. He has been involved in prayer ministry at church, regional and national level. He loves anything to do with theatre and tries to find ways to use his acting skills. He tries to keep fit by regular visits to the gym.

Andy Lucas

Deacon and Treasurer

Andy is an accountant who runs a personal tax consultancy so is well-gifted to working behind the scenes keeping an eye on our finances and advising the church on financial matters. He is also part of the A/V team. He is a passionate supporter of the ‘Shots’ [Aldershot Town FC]. He enjoys running and most other sports particularly football, cricket and American football. Also food [not cooking it!] and family holidays in the Alps and Cornwall.

Steph Lucas

Steph is a junior school teacher, teaching part time, doing supply cover, and tutoring work in the evenings. She heads up the ‘Rock’ children’s ministry on Sundays and is involved with the Ark Toddler Group during the week. She has a passion for mission and is a trustee for the Ratidzo Trust working in Zimbabwe.

Malcolm Bowgett

Deacon

Malcolm moved to Godalming from Lincoln and is a retired electrical software engineer and data base designer. He works actively and tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure our buildings are kept safe and comfortable. He willingly picks up many practical jobs. His interests are theatre and his garden.
